Bassjunkees DJs - anybody up for Poland?
#1 :: Post by Lim-Dul on March 17 2009 18:20:55
Heyho fellow addicts!
I'm kinda new here but I've been tuning in regularly for the past month or so and I like what I hear. ^^
A recent event where some relatively unknown DJs from the UK came over to Warsaw made me think about organizing something like that myself - especially since I think many of you would do better than them. ;-)

Now, I wonder if any of you would be interested in something like that - not any time soon but in several months or so. The details would have to be worked out but you can all assume that the very least we could provide you with is covering the traveling expenses - if somebody feels famous or important enough we might consider paying him but this would be decided on a case-to-case basis anyway.

Now, the general condition is that I'd need at least a single DJ who produces his own music and is not unheard of in the DnB scene - he/she/they could serve as the main attraction and hook for the show with appropriate "handling" (see the "famous and important" clause above ;-) and then we would see how many others it'd be feasible (financially) to bring over here for support. I don't know the personal achievements of you all but assume that DJ Psycho 666 also has some contacts to non-regular Bassjunkees DJs who fulfill the above criteria and could be interested in something like this if given adequate payment. =)

Remember - this is just me testing the ground although I already asked around some clubs in Warsaw - it all comes down to presenting them with a viable offer. Also, keep in mind that the venue would depend on the "weight" of the main attraction - in our Polish reality I wouldn't count on a turnout of more than 200-300 people for anything but the biggest names in the business, so keep your expectations and demands accordingly low. I'm going to a club where Alix Perez will be playing this Saturday so I'll check out how many people will show up at his show - he isn't unheard of so he could serve as a kind of guideline (rather the top limit =) for my initiative.

So, write your thoughts, post your music, list your accomplishments and make demands - your input will be considered and is greatly appreciated.

I don't know how the event would run down - if this looks like a potentially profitable endeavor in the eyes of the club manager then he/she would probably pick it up - otherwise I'd have to make an "external" party not endorsed by the club but still taking place in it. We have few clubs in Warsaw which play DnB on a regular basis; from the top of my head I can only think of two although I visited others and they didn't say no - just told me they wouldn't "market" such events under their own label.

By the way - what are the current prices of (the cheapest possible :-P) flight tickets from the UK to Poland? There should be quite a few options since so many Poles travel abroad to find work. ^^

Yeah, Ryanair was one of the cheaper airlines - I checked the ticket prices already.
I suppose the guys who'd be willing to come over here wouldn't take off from the same city, though. Considering my complete lack of knowledge when it comes to British geography, could you, the guys who expressed their interest so far, say what the closest airport would be?
I suppose you could check the ticket prices yourself and just report them... Anyways - I think I have an idea whom to invite if the whole event takes off so I'll continue my quest in the clubs - I'll contact some of you personally as well - I have to compile a nice offer for the club managers and for that I have to have some details to present. ^^

I don't produce my own tunes yet but I have DJ'd for over 12 years and could play pretty much any style of D&B or Dubstep you like.

I wouldn't need paying for it + I would be prepared to go halves on the cost of flights if you booked me.

Contact details if you fancy are in my sig.

Thanks.

Quite a few people seem interested in my idea, it seems. By now I guess I'd have to organize two batches so that nobody would be left out. ^^

My main concern now is whether I should spend time on organizing an event like this - I'm kind of busy-ish right now. I have no idea how much work this means - in addition to negotiations with club managers I'd have to handle stuff like the transport, flyers, ads and whatnot. Perhaps a viable solution would be presenting the idea to some agency, especially since I'm not interested in profit and many of you aren't either. ^^

Ha, ha - it's hard to work with you guys - you're all too chilled out. Well, I guess it's "the way of the artist". :-D

Haven't gotten a single reply to my PMs with the questionnaire.

Perhaps if I post it here you'll take the time to answer - please provide the info point-by-point to make my job a bit easier. BTW - I found lots of clubs in Warsaw that would be willing to play DnB so I'm pretty confident that an event like this is within my reach.

Sorry if I seem a bit "stiff" (he, he, he) and punctilious (a real word, apparently!) but it's the first time I try to organize something like that.

Hello there!
Quite a few of the Bassjunkees.com DJs seem to be interested in my initiative (bringing you to Warsaw), so I decided to contact each one of you personally.

I love virtually all the sets on Bassjunkees.com so don't get mad if I have to hand-pick several people for financial/organizational reasons. If this little endeavor of mine lifts off I'm pretty sure that I could organize another one faster and more smoothly thanks to lessons learned from the first one.

What I need right now is some solid information about you so that I might so much as even start thinking about compiling an offer I could present to club managers/agencies or whomever. Please take your time to answer the questions below even if you have a MySpace page or something like that since I'd like to have some homogeneous data I could work with.

1. What are your financial expectations? (Covering the traveling expenses/hotel standards/payment for the show)

2. What is the airport closest to your location? (In case I have to organize your transport and evaluate the costs.)

3. What days/dates can you play on (Fridays and Saturdays preferred of course) or absolutely unable to play on? (Consider the next few months as well)

4. What are your DJ-ing experience and your career highlights? (Playing in famous clubs, released tracks etc.)

5. Is there a place one can download your sample sets or evaluate your work?

6. Do you produce your own music?

7. Would you consider yourself fit for being a "headliner" at such (quite small and not very prestigious) an event? Must have answered "yes" to point 5. and please be honest/realistic. ^^

8. Would you like to bring anybody with you (show-related, e.g. MCs) or do you recommend contacting anybody?

9. Do you have direct access to any "big names" in the DnB scene? (In the sense that you might convince them to come over.)

Once I collect all the answers I'll start touring the Varsovian club scene and see if my initiative is feasible. Remember that I don't want to make any money off you guys, I just want to bring some epic DnB to my city! ^^

Best regards,

Jan "Lim-Dul" Milewski

P.S. Jan means John in Polish. What follows is that I'm not a girl so stop trying to pick me up like DJ Tails. ;-)

Sorry, tails - I had to include the P.S. - it was just too funny. :-D
However, when I think about it, the very fact that you actively communicated with me turned me into a regular Bassjunkees.com listener and chat-room idler. See the positive side! ^^

9. Do you have direct access to any "big names" in the DnB scene? (In the sense that you might convince them to come over.)
if you want to book a "big name" it is going to cost a hell of alot more than to bring say 3 talented but not as well known names.

Thanks for all the answers so far - both via PMs and here! I'll definitely tour the clubs next week and see what is what. With all the talent present here it would be no doubt better to organize two sessions. And don't worry about Polish support (MCs and stuff) - I'm sure they will show up no matter what - even uninvited. ;-)
